GMW Jewellery’s story began long before we opened our doors.

My journey into jewellery started in 1997, working for Noel Herd straight out of school. It was there that I was first introduced to the industry, learning everything from watch batteries and engraving to the beginnings of jewellery making.

After taking a few different paths, travelling and starting a family, I found my way back to jewellery when Noel invited me to join his evening jewellery classes. I was instantly hooked. What began as a creative outlet soon grew into something much bigger.

I started small — completing repairs for friends, creating pieces to sell and spending Saturdays at the Marlborough Artisan Market with my little Suzuki Swift packed to the brim. For five years, the markets gave me the opportunity to build my skills, complete my apprenticeship and grow a loyal local following.

In 2018, with the support of my husband Nigel, I took the leap and opened GMW Jewellery in the Redwoodtown Hub. What started with five small cabinets and Amelia helping one day a week has grown into a talented team, including three fully qualified jewellers working onsite.

As GMW continued to grow, so did our need for space. In 2026, we moved into our new, purpose-built home at 73 Cleghorn Street — still proudly in Redwoodtown, where our retail space, workshop and team now have room to grow.

From market stalls to our own workshop and showroom, GMW Jewellery has always been about craftsmanship, creativity, personal service and our local community.
